Fantastic Neighborhood 41: And the award goes to…

We awake from our turkey-induced comas to regale you fine listeners with tales of the Wii U, unsophisticated shooters (Black Ops), Syndicate, and more. And lest we not forget, it’s almost time for the Video Game Awards™, presented with Double XP™ by Mountain Dew™ and Doritos™: Suck it Down!™ But seriously, Fred and Jon make their VGA picks, including Journey for Best Shooter and Nolan North for Outstanding Achievement in Being the Fucking Man (and voice acting). Buy Spec Ops.

In Game Club, we’ve got Thirty Flights of Loving. Is it a game? Is it art? What’s a fair price point? Spoiler warning: your two favorite hosts disagree. Next week is the final chapter of The Walking Dead.

As always, you can reach us at letters@fantasticneighborhood.com, or by calling 720.HOODIE.6 (720.466.3436). Follow FredJon, and the show on Twitter and like us on Facebook and Google Plus. Subscribe and rate us on iTunes. Jon is STILL looking for Halo friends, so hit him up on Twitter.

Fantastic Neighborhood 37: Spooktacular?

Despite the hurricane and public transit shutdown, Fred and I (Jon) scraped (Skyped) together…something. After a spooky start, we chat RiffTrax, Dishonored, trying to get back to Borderlands 2, Argo, and playing Streets of Rage with a significant other. A less-than-tastefully named Hype section features Sega polygonal classics, Wreck-It Ralph, and Skyfall. Game Club features the penultimate chapter of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

On a serious note, while we complain about having to Skype a podcast, we both fared really well in the hurricane. We lost nothing, not even cable. We’re both from the East Coast, and I spent my formidable years (read: high school) at the Jersey Shore, an area devastated by this storm. Our thoughts are with everyone who is struggling right now, but having people in your thoughts or prayers is the same as doing nothing, and the American Red Cross can always use help. Donate a little cash, if you’re able. To make a quick $10 donation, text REDCROSS to 90999. If you’d prefer to help out some four-legged, winged, or slithering friends in need, text HUMANE to 80888 to send $10 to the American Humane Association.

This week’s musical choices, except for the werewolf thing, reflect our love for our home states:
