Fantastic Neighborhood 56: Fancy Wine and Cheese Party

Published on March 15, 2013 by in Episodes

fancy-party

We have a Fancy Wine and Cheese party with friend of the show and writer at Ubisoft Montreal, C.J. Kershner (Homefront, Rainbow 6 Patriots.) By fancy we of course mean we dressed like big kids. And by wine and cheese we mean 20 dollar bourbon and cheese.

There is not much structure to this show because when C.J. comes on we throw caution to the wind. But we do talk about Sim City, Dead Space 3, Feminist Frequency, TPB AFK, and more HAWT gamer stories. We also talk about unmanned in gameclub.

Our sponsor this week is Goatify.Me, Not really but this is a super useful website.

Next weeks shows gameclub is Cart Life. As always, you can reach us at letters@fantasticneighborhood.com, or by calling 720.HOODIE.6 (720.466.3436). Follow FredJonCJ, & the show on Twitter, and like us on FacebookSubscribe and rate us on iTunes.

Music:

  • Lorde - “Royals”
  • Bayside – “Masterpiece”
  • Metric – “Collect Call (Adventure Club Remix)”

Fantastic Neighborhood 50: Drunken Tomfoolery with Homefront Writer CJ Kershner

hoodfront

This is an episode like no other. I mean in a good way. We didn’t write show notes and we finished of the Bulleit and moved onto the Woodford. There was something else too…

Oh that’s right, C.J. Kershner (Homefront, Rainbow 6 Patriots) joins us! We talk DayZ, The Cave, Homefront, Spec Ops, the game industry, the THQ sell-off, Canadians, French Canadians….

We talk about a lot. And CJ is a really funny guy. Whom Fred definitely has a bit of a crush on.

Next week’s game club is Mark of the Ninja, currently available in a hot deal.

As always, you can reach us at letters@fantasticneighborhood.com, or by calling 720.HOODIE.6 (720.466.3436). Follow FredJonCJ, & the show on Twitter, and like us on FacebookSubscribe and rate us on iTunes.

Fantastic Neighborhood Special: Full Interview with Killing is Harmless Author Brendan Keogh

killingis

As promised in Episode 48, here is the full interview with Brendan Keogh, author of Killing is Harmless: A Critical Reading of Spec Ops: The Line. Brendan had a ton of great things to say about games, war, the international perception of American gun violence, gun control in Australia, and effective uses of music in games. He was generally a great guy with a ton of valuable insight.

The episode is sprinkled with spoilers, so if you haven’t yet, make sure to play Spec Ops: The Line and read Killing is Harmless: A Critical Reading of Spec Ops: The Line.

Fantastic Neighborhood’s Rocking (Dick Joke) New Year’s Eve

Published on January 4, 2013 by in Episodes

This was a tough one to finish. So many friends, so many fun times. 2012…

First up, we talk with some close friends of the show (Ryan Hewson of Perpetual Geek Machine, Harold Price of Cross Border Gaming, and Will Gallego) about their top picks for 2012! What games made the cut? You’ll have to listen.

Then Jon and Fred go into another new yearly tradition, the Hoodie awards, or Hoodies for short. The Hoodies celebrate the best of the, well, whatever categories we pick. We also have a special guest judge at one point, Rich Coonelly of PerpetualGeekMachine.net!

We close the show with sad gamer obituaries, new years resolutions, bold predictions for 2013, remembering some of the bands we may have broken up over the course of the year, and a special thank you to everyone who made 2012 a Fantastic Neighborhood year. We also premier the long lost last song from Measured in Grey to end the show.

Segments:
0:01:52 Ryan Hewson
0:20:18 Will Gallego
0:30:52 Harold Price
0:37:26 The Hoodies
