Fantastic Neighborhood’s Rocking (Dick Joke) New Year’s Eve

Published on January 4, 2013 by in Episodes

This was a tough one to finish. So many friends, so many fun times. 2012…

First up, we talk with some close friends of the show (Ryan Hewson of Perpetual Geek Machine, Harold Price of Cross Border Gaming, and Will Gallego) about their top picks for 2012! What games made the cut? You’ll have to listen.

Then Jon and Fred go into another new yearly tradition, the Hoodie awards, or Hoodies for short. The Hoodies celebrate the best of the, well, whatever categories we pick. We also have a special guest judge at one point, Rich Coonelly of PerpetualGeekMachine.net!

We close the show with sad gamer obituaries, new years resolutions, bold predictions for 2013, remembering some of the bands we may have broken up over the course of the year, and a special thank you to everyone who made 2012 a Fantastic Neighborhood year. We also premier the long lost last song from Measured in Grey to end the show.

Fantastic Neighborhood 38: Halo 4 More Years

Welcome to the political throwdown. The election’s over, but the gaming goodness has just begun. While Fred skipped out on gaming, with the exception of seeing Wreck-It-Ralph, Jon dove straight into Halo 4, which won the election for his heart (this week). He kind of likes it. LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes and Borderlands 2 and Legends are charming third-party candidates. Batman is only $7.50 on Amazon right now. Fantastic Neighborhood also congratulates Maine State Senator Elect, and avid WoW player, Colleen Lachowicz.

Game Club gets its Russian on in Metro 2033. The conclusion will be next week. Speaking of next week, we’ll be doing a special on console launches, so call us with your console launch memories.

Oh, and the East Coast is still pretty fucked up, so donate a little cash, if you’re able. To make a quick $10 donation, text REDCROSS to 90999.

Fantastic Neighborhood 37: Spooktacular?

Despite the hurricane and public transit shutdown, Fred and I (Jon) scraped (Skyped) together…something. After a spooky start, we chat RiffTrax, Dishonored, trying to get back to Borderlands 2, Argo, and playing Streets of Rage with a significant other. A less-than-tastefully named Hype section features Sega polygonal classics, Wreck-It Ralph, and Skyfall. Game Club features the penultimate chapter of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

On a serious note, while we complain about having to Skype a podcast, we both fared really well in the hurricane. We lost nothing, not even cable. We’re both from the East Coast, and I spent my formidable years (read: high school) at the Jersey Shore, an area devastated by this storm. Our thoughts are with everyone who is struggling right now, but having people in your thoughts or prayers is the same as doing nothing, and the American Red Cross can always use help. Donate a little cash, if you’re able. To make a quick $10 donation, text REDCROSS to 90999. If you’d prefer to help out some four-legged, winged, or slithering friends in need, text HUMANE to 80888 to send $10 to the American Humane Association.

This week’s musical choices, except for the werewolf thing, reflect our love for our home states:

Fantastic Neighborhood 34: Bronies of War (The Movie Episode)

Welcome back listeners, and welcome back permanent co-host, Fred. This week it’s a couple of games and a couple more movies. After talking about the same old games (Torchlight 2 & Borderlands 2), we talk about more old games (NiGHTS, Zaxxon, and SoulCalibur). Oh and movies. We talk movies we watched (Drive Angry & Ghost Rider 2) and movies we’re pumped for (Argo & Looper). And movie magazine Cinefantastique, which Fred does an interview in. Almost lastly, we spoil the shit out of The Cabin in the Woods. See this movie, then listen to the segment.

And our biggest bestest, most exclusive content yet! We’ve got a special behind the scenes look at Bronies of War, as well as its first trailer! You don’t want to miss the next big thing from Marcus Fenix!

Next week’s Game Club is Asura’s Wrath. The first two parts, comprising of the first twelve chapters.

Fantastic Neighborhood 33: Bruce Campbell is the Pride of Canada

Fred’s out of town this week, so special guest Will Gallego fills in. Everyone is still playing Borderlands 2, , watching movies, and playing the classics. We rag on Resident Evil  6, and question the point of game reviews. Fred checks in from San Francisco, and we briefly rap about Trine 2.

Next week’s Game Club is not a game, it’s a movie. The Cabin in the Woods.
